81% of Indians believe online government services are now much easier to use, VMWare study finds

As more and more citizens go online to access government services, government spending on IT in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, including India, has also increased, leading to improved user experience.

About 81% of Indians involved in a new VMWare-Deloitte APAC study said online services offered by the government are now much “easier to use” and 78% said the quality of services has improved. However, 86% of Indians still think governments should spend more on technology.

In Asia-Pacific, 77% of participants said they used digital platforms to access government services, while use of in-person government services declined by 50% over the past two years, according to the study.

In India, 80% of participants involved in the study believe that the use of technology in government services will make society more equal. Around 89% of Indians also said they were ready to learn new digital skills or use a new platform.

“Citizens expect the same level of services and quality as those provided by private companies or organizations,” said Sylvain Cazard, senior vice president and general manager, Asia-Pacific and Japan, VMware in a statement.

Cazar is right. The study shows that 67% of APAC participants expect the quality of government online services to be as good as that of private companies.

“Delivering services in terms of multi-cloud infrastructure as well as modern containerized applications and services is the way forward. Governments must therefore also align thinking and resources with these major trends to meet the needs of their citizens,” Cazard added.

Pradeep Nair, Vice President and General Manager of VMware India, said, “Easier access, greater transparency and increased data security are specific areas to focus on.”

Deloitte interviewed 3,840 people for the survey in several countries, including India, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore. According to Deloitte, these countries should together add 900 million new Internet users by 2025.

Government IT spending in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region is expected to grow 8% annually to $151 billion by 2025, outpacing 6% growth in overall government spending, according to a July report from Deloitte. .
