Government agencies provide assistance, support

ALEXANDER Hiponia, 66, a father of five from Silay City, got the shock of his life when he was identified as one of 15 beneficiaries of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Pangkabuhayan program in worth 30,000 Pangkabuhayan during the built-in sustainable assistance. Convergence activity of the recovery and advancement program (Isarap) at the Natalio Velez sports and cultural center in the city of Silay on April 8.

“Miracle. It’s a blessing from above,” exclaimed Hiponia with tears in his eyes when asked his reaction to the financial assistance he unexpectedly received from DOLE in the framework of various advantages and services granted during Isarap in Negros Occidental.

Hiponia, who was volunteering as a parking lot attendant outside the location of his wife’s small restaurant, was approached and assessed as a qualified beneficiary of the program.

“Thank you very much for this livelihood program. We are very happy that the government noticed us. It is a great privilege, a great help for us. This government is the best,” he added.

Some 13 national government agencies including DOLE, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Housing Authority (NHA), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) , Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Cooperative Development (CDA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), the Department of Commerce and Industry (DTI) and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), among others, provided support to their beneficiaries identified during the convergence activity.

CDA Deputy Secretary Vidal Villanueva III told recipients that the presence of government officials and agencies at Isarap is an expression of President Rodrigo Duterte’s care and love “for all of you here. in the province of Negros Occidental”.

Villanueva said it was always in the president’s heart to reach out especially to those who need the government the most. For example, free university education for young people who cannot afford to go to university.

“For those who are sick there is the health care program for free hospital access including the Malasakit Center and here in Region 6 you have witnessed the facelift of your most precious island of Boracay to bring it back to a world-class tourist destination,” she added.

Isarap is complying with President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to make the Filipino people feel and realize that his government is with them and cares for them until the final stretch of his administration.

After Negros Occidental, the Isarap Western Visayas stage will take place in Iloilo and Aklan respectively on April 9 and 10. (PIA)
