Government Agencies Reveal New Measures to Support Transgender Community

On March 31, 2022, as part of the Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) observance, the Biden administration announced new actions to “remove barriers transgender people face in accessing essential government services,” including the Social Security Administration (SSA), Department of State and US Equivalent Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

In a statement acknowledging TDOV, Biden said, “To everyone out there celebrating Transgender Visibility Day, I want you to know your president sees you,” adding that “so many transgender, nonbinary, and nonconforming Americans kind…serve proudly and openly in our military; get elected and develop policies at all levels of government; and running businesses, curing illnesses, and serving our communities in countless other ways.

More than a dozen actions announced March 31 aim to further expand travel experiences for transgender people, provide resources for transgender children and their families, further improve access to federal services, and advance inclusion and visibility in federal data.
