LinkedIn: U.S. government agency computer networks may not be prepared for return to the office: https://rvbd.ly/3AelekT
Among survey respondents who are concerned about the end-user experience in a hybrid work environment, 52% are concerned that their legacy IT architectures and on-premises network infrastructure will face the increased use of collaboration tools such as Teams and Zoom as workers. back to the office and 44% are concerned that the end-user experience on site will not be as good as at home. These concerns come as the concept of “government from anywhere,” whether in an onsite or hybrid capacity, is gaining acceptance. Of those surveyed, 47% expect hybrid work environments (telecommuting 2-4 days a week) to persist in the long term, while only 30% expect a majority of employees to return in the office full time in the next six months.
The investigation of IT employees across the US federal government, civilian agencies, and defense, was conducted by research firm Market Connections.
Respondents also reported relying on reactive manual methods to quantify issues around user, infrastructure, and application experiences. While 100% of respondents agree that measuring end-user experience and productivity capability is at least somewhat important, 87% say their agency always responds responsively to support tickets and 51% rely on user phone calls as the primary means of quantifying issues. .
“These survey results underscore the importance of using proactive monitoring tools that provide comprehensive network visibility to improve user experience and network performance across an agency’s IT environment.” said Craig McCullough, senior vice president of public sector at Riverbed. “As agencies balance their different working environments and collaboration tools, they should seek to implement an observability platform that multiple teams can use to proactively identify and contextually analyze user issues and leverage automation to resolve them quickly.”
According to the survey, most of the agencies surveyed (59%) do not effectively measure the impact of change in their IT environment and do not examine the productivity of business transactions in terms of labor cost, impact on latency or success rate. User experience, productivity, and IT network performance issues can be successfully addressed using a single-platform, proactive monitoring tool that provides end-to-end network visibility. With complete visibility, IT and branch managers can quickly identify, mitigate, and resolve issues across a variety of endpoints through an integrated system.
“This is important because without a single performance platform, agencies lack a consolidated end-to-end incident-centric context, root cause analysis or automated response,” said Monty Deel, CEO of Swish. “Unified Observability should be at the forefront of agency thinking and we and our partners, like Riverbed, are working to support this shift in mindset that will ultimately benefit government for years to come.”
