MCLEAN, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–More than half of federal government IT employees who responded to a recent survey worry that their IT systems are struggling to provide a good user experience as more agency workers return working in offices rather than remotely, according to a new survey released today by Riverbed® and Rustling.

Among survey respondents who are concerned about the end-user experience in a hybrid work environment, 52% are concerned that their legacy IT architectures and on-premises network infrastructure will face the increased use of collaboration tools such as Teams and Zoom as workers. back to the office and 44% are concerned that the end-user experience on site will not be as good as at home. These concerns come as the concept of “government from anywhere,” whether in an onsite or hybrid capacity, is gaining acceptance. Of those surveyed, 47% expect hybrid work environments (telecommuting 2-4 days a week) to persist in the long term, while only 30% expect a majority of employees to return in the office full time in the next six months.
The investigation of IT employees across the US federal government, civilian agencies, and defense, was conducted by research firm Market Connections.
Respondents also indicated that they rely on reactive and manual methods to quantify issues related to user, infrastructure, and application experiences. While 100% of respondents agree that measuring end-user experience and productivity capability is at least somewhat important, 87% say their agency always responds responsively to support tickets and 51% rely on user phone calls as the primary means of quantifying issues. .

According to the survey, most of the agencies surveyed (59%) do not effectively measure the impact of change in their IT environment and do not examine the productivity of business transactions in terms of labor cost, impact on latency or success rate.
